2024 California Classic Summer League: Rookie Stephon Castle helps Spurs drop China

SACRAMENTO — Stephon Castle led the San Antonio Spurs to an 89-67 victory over Team China in the California Classic Summer League on Tuesday at Golden 1 Center, scoring a game-high 18 points.

The Spurs began strong, leading 29-20 after the first quarter. Although Team China narrowed the gap to three points by halftime, the Spurs’ defense clamped down in the third quarter, allowing only seven points and building a 13-point lead going into the fourth. San Antonio maintained their focus in the final quarter, securing a comfortable 22-point win.

Castle complemented his scoring with six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Harrison Ingram contributed significantly with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jamaree Bouyea added 14 points and five assists, committing just one turnover in his 25 minutes on the court.

For Team China, Liao Sanning was the standout performer with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 26 minutes. Jiao Boqiao and He Xining both scored 11 points, while Yang Hansen added six points and eight rebounds.

The Spurs will continue their Summer League campaign in Las Vegas on Saturday, facing the Trail Blazers.
