Frimpong to stay at Leverkusen after all?

Jeremie Frimpong, the standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen, has caught the attention of several top clubs with his impressive displays last season. However, those interested in securing his services, including Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona, will need to act swiftly. According to Bild, Frimpong’s release clause, set at €40-45 million, is set to expire the week after the Euro 2024 final.

Confirmed: Wolfsburg loan out Franjic again

Once the clause expires, Bayer Leverkusen will have the liberty to negotiate a transfer fee, likely increasing the cost of acquiring the Dutchman. Frimpong himself has been non-committal about his future. When asked in May about his plans, he expressed his contentment at Leverkusen but did not rule out a move, stating, “I’m so happy here. I’m concentrating on the here and now. I don’t know what will happen in the future.”

Last season, Frimpong made a significant impact, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances. His current contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until 2028, adding to the club’s strong bargaining position should his release clause lapse. Clubs interested in the dynamic right-back will need to move quickly to avoid a potentially higher price tag after the clause expires.
