“It’s business”. Teofimo Lopez spoke out about Usyk’s decision to vacate the IBF belt

Teofimo Lopez, the WBO light welterweight champion, has commented on Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate
the IBF heavyweight title, suggesting it was motivated by avoiding mandatory challengers and strategic business
decisions. Lopez implied that he should have taken a similar approach with his own title, particularly in his delayed
bout against George Kambosos, which allowed Devin Haney to become undisputed champion.

Devin Haney plans to sue Ryan Garcia

Lopez expressed his belief that vacating titles can disrupt others’ plans, referencing Haney’s quick ascension to
undisputed status after Lopez’s fight delays. He emphasized the strategic aspect of handling sanctioning body titles in professional boxing.

Regarding Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to gift the IBF title to Anthony Joshua and Joe Joyce, Lopez noted the symbolic gesture and highlighted the upcoming fight between Joshua and Daniel Dubois on September 21 to determine the new IBF heavyweight champion.

Previously, Lopez had made critical remarks towards Devin Haney, reflecting the competitive dynamics and tensions within the boxing world regarding titles and championship status.
