The signing of Luis Diaz has been one of Liverpool’s best bits of business in recent years but the Reds have been warned
that he’s at risk of leaving if a certain club come calling.
Luis Diaz’s dad has revealed that his son’s “dream” is to play for Barcelona and issued a warning to Liverpool over the winger’s future.
Diaz, 26, joined the Reds from Porto in January 2022, quickly establishing himself as a key player
for Jurgen Klopp’s side and becoming a fan favorite.
Speaking to Colombian TV channel Win Sports following his release, dad Luis Manuel Diaz is quoted as saying by Noticias RCN:
“The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment.
Luis is indeed a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there.
So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.
Luis Díaz’s father is Luis Manuel Díaz Jiménez
“Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work,
his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona
because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”
Diaz boosted his stock on Thursday by scoring both of Colombia’s goals in a 2-1 comeback victory over Brazil,
but there’s been little talk of a move away from Merseyside shortly. The 26-year-old has a contract until 2027 and is loved by Reds boss Klopp.
While his father was still being held captive, Diaz came off the bench to score a 95th-minute equalizer against Luton,
snatching a 1-1 draw which has helped put Liverpool second in the Premier League table.
Klopp remarked post-match: It’s wonderful that he wants to be here and he gets that [goal] but that’s it.
A super important goal and very important for him and emotional, but that’s it.”
The Reds boss, who pushed Liverpool to secure a £37m deal with Porto nearly two years ago, went on to say of Diaz:
“When he’s on the pitch, he’s always involved in special things. We knew he would be a threat.”Read More
