David Alaba’s recovery from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sustained on 17 December 2023, has
been slower than anticipated, raising concerns about his return to play. Reports from Vienna-based newspaper
‘Die Presse’ suggest that Alaba’s injury is more severe than initially thought, with a potential return not expected
until at least 2025.
Real Madrid’s pre-season training is set to begin soon, but there is significant uncertainty regarding Alaba’s condition.
Journalist Rodra from ‘Relevo’ mentioned over a month ago that Alaba had to undergo another operation on his left
knee, complicating his recovery process.

Alaba’s injury woes began in a match against Villarreal, where he ruptured his ACL and subsequently underwent surgery.
Initially, a return by the start of the 2024-25 season was anticipated. However, unlike his teammates Militao and Courtois,
who suffered similar injuries and returned within approximately eight months, Alaba’s recovery has been hampered by
ongoing mobility issues.
The German newspaper ‘Heute’ reports that Alaba is still unable to run and was recently seen struggling to climb stairs.
Real Madrid’s medical staff are eager to assess his condition when pre-season starts on 15 July, but it appears that Alaba
could be sidelined for more than a year, significantly impacting his availability for the club.
This extended absence will be a considerable setback for both Alaba and Real Madrid, as they navigate the upcoming season
without one of their key defenders.
