Mikel Arteta hints at Arsenal’s advantage over Liverpool and Manchester City in the title race

Latest Liverpool news and gossip as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained where he hopes his team will have
the advantage in the Premier League title race with the Reds and Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted what he hopes will give his side the advantage over Liverpool in the Premier
League title race.

The Reds claimed a 4-1 win over Brentford in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at the Gtech Community Stadium. The victory temporarily moved Jurgen Klopp’s side five points clear at the top of the league standings.

Arsenal faced Burnley a couple of hours later and recorded a 5-0 win at Turf Moor. The victory for the Gunners saw Liverpool’s lead at the top reduced back to two points heading into their midweek clash against Luton Town.

While Liverpool will play their Premier League game against Luton in midweek, Arsenal will face Newcastle next weekend. Both clubs now have just 13 top-flight fixtures remaining before the league title will be confirmed.

Manchester City missed the chance to maintain their advantage in the title race with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s side are now four points behind the Reds with a game in hand that comes against Brentford in midweek.

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta

Arteta was asked about Arsenal’s hunger to keep scoring goals after putting five past Burnley. The Gunners boss explained how goal difference is an important factor to him and his team in the title race with Liverpool and Man City.

“We want more and we know how important it is to be up there in the goal difference,” Arteta told reporters on Saturday, via football_london. “Every player that you bring [on], whether it is one minute or 30 minutes, the contribution they are willing to give to the team is really positive. Let’s keep doing it.”

The three-goal winning margin for Liverpool over Brentford saw the Reds move to plus-35. However, the five-goal margin for Arsenal against Burnley saw them overtake Liverpool with a plus-36 goal difference.

Man City are now behind both Liverpool and Arsenal in the table both in points and goal difference. The draw with Chelsea leaves Pep Guardiola’s team with a plus-31 goal difference heading into their clash with Brentford on Tuesday night.Read More
